The thinkers and feelers behind Dharma Barks
Meet Jess.
The Overthinker.
A tightly wound engineer with a goofy side. She has dedicated her life thus far to becoming a Master Overthinker with the engineering degrees and certifications to prove it. Jess has been told that she is an empath, but doesn’t really know what that means.
By day, she optimizes systems and processes while driving change throughout organizations. By night, she builds strategic plans to take over her mind as the primary control center while allowing her heart to assume leadership. She is a relentless experimenter that is getting more comfortable with the uncomfortable [feelings!] to live a more productive and fulfilling life…and eventually to achieve world domination.
Meet Bert.
The Underthinker.
A true innovator redefining what it means to be a good dog in today’s modern world. Bert is a mess with a refined side. Born in 2020, he can’t be anything but fearless and resilient. Bert serves as an advisor to Jess. And boy, does this little guy have a lot to say!
What you will find here.
Dharma Barks was created as a collaboration between Jess and Bert with the intention to help people who feel stuck in their minds with all of these unprocessed feelings and don’t know how to move forward to live a more productive and fulfilling life. Since Jess is still learning from Bert how to do this, they thought why not share the uncomfortableness and imperfection that goes along with this heart/mind transformation. We certainly don’t have all the answers. We invite everyone to join in so we can help each other learn, grow, and laugh!
In this blog you will find…
Permission to try weird and comfortable things by awkwardly attempting to integrate the rational mind, intuitive mind, and emotions for a more productive and fulfilling life.
The latest self development techniques on heart/mind transformation from the experts:
The Thinkers: Neuroscientists, Psychologists, and other scientists who have an opinion and/or data on this topic.
The Feelers: Buddhists, Mystics, Energy Heelers, and others that approach the world with a totally different perspective.
Dogs - Some of our best teachers
Experiments, Lessons Learned, and Humor (hopefully) - embracing uncomfortable change is actually pretty funny to Jess and Bert.
Grammar Disclaimer: We are an engineer and a dog, not writers. There will be grammatical errors despite our best intentions. Let us know when we are off mark and how we can do better.
“That without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, moribund.”
— Anthony Bourdain
